Autocad is the original cad software used by millions around the world. It can be used to create precise 2d and 3d drawings and models, as well as electrical diagrams, construction drawings, and more. This evening workshop is intensively focused on usage of autocad tools and commands through practice of class assignments.

  • AutoCAD is the original CAD software used by millions around the world. It can be used to create precise 2D and 3D drawings and models, as well as electrical diagrams, construction drawings, and more. 
  • This course is intended to help students learn to use AutoCAD software as a drawing tool for drafting building interior design related drawings. Upon successful completion, students will demonstrate the ability to create, edit, and plot 2-dimensional (2D) architecture drawings and 3-dimensional (3D) basic models.
  • The course is focused on AutoCAD tools and commands. Practice on class assignments will enable students to gain practical experience with the software.
  • Textbooks & Learning Materials: No textbooks are required. AutoCAD 2022 For Beginners (CADfolks, 2021) and AutoCAD 2023 for the Interior Designer (Dean Muccio, 2022) are recommended.
  • Required PC and Software: Windows 10 or above, Autodesk AutoCAD (can be installed with an educational license). If students prefer, they may use the computers at Pacific Design Academy during class time.
  • Teaching Methodologies: Lecture and Laboratory with in-class exercises and out-of-class assignments.

Class 1:

  • Course introduction. Blueprint reading. Basic hand drafting. Introduction to AutoCAD and its interfaces. Assignment 1.

Class 2:

  • Creating new drawing files. Creating workspace and changing background/theme colours. In-class exercises.

Class 3:

  • Setting up drawing units. Understanding the concepts of snap tool and overrides, ortho modes, and polar tracking. Drawing lines at angles and measurements. In-class exercises.

Class 4:

  • Drawing circles, arts, and arrows. Learning 2D drawing navigation. Assignment 2.

Class 5:

  • Working with grips to modify shapes and objects. Modify and edit drawings. Assignment 3.

Class 6:

  • Working with drawing aids and layers to modify line types and colours. Assignment 4.

Class 7:

  • Drawing rectangle, polygon, polyline, ellipse, elliptical arc, spline, and points. Modify assignment 4.

Class 8:

  • Working with dimensions and dimension styles. Adding text to drawings. Assignment 5.

Class 9:

  • Creating hatches and gradients. Working with blocks and external references. Assignment 6.

Class 10:

  • Working with layouts. Printing and plotting. Assignment 7.

Class 11:

  • Introducing 3D basics. Creating 3D models. Assignment 8.

Class 12:

  • Introducing World Coordinate System (WCS). Introducing User Coordinate System (UCS). Course review and feedback.
