Course Details

A confined space is one which is both enclosed or largely enclosed and which also has a reasonably foreseeable risk to workers of fire, explosion, loss of consciousness, asphyxiation or drowning.

Confined spaces are commonly found in vats, tanks, pits, pipes, ducts, flues, chimneys, silos, containers, pressure vessels, underground sewers, wet or dry wells, shafts, trenches, tunnels or other similar enclosed or partially enclosed structures.
The hazards associated with confined spaces include:

  • Toxic Atmosphere. A toxic atmosphere may cause various acute effects, including impairment of judgement, unconsciousness and death

  • Oxygen Deficiency.

  • Oxygen Enrichment.

  • Flammable or explosive atmospheres.

  • Flowing liquids or free-flowing solids.

  • Excessive Heat.

 

Course Description

This industry code of practice is intended to provide guidance for the safety and health of all
persons who need to enter or work in confined spaces by preventing exposure to hazards,
may otherwise be experienced when working in a confined space, and thereby prevent collapse, injury, illness, or death arising from exposure to those hazards.

DOSH/JKKP legislation includes a place above or below ground level where a person could be injured if they fell from that place. It is specially designed to provide basic knowledge and skills on Confined Space Safety.

It includes understanding the potential hazards in a confine space, its safety procedures, and the uses of gas detectors, in addition to self-contained breathing apparatus. It also includes the rescue of confined spaces.

 

Course Outline

Successful participants will be able to work safely in the Confined Space area with minimal supervision by identifying the requirements of the job, accessing and installing the required equipment, and cleaning up the work area.

Confined space safety is one of the main objectives, as is protecting those whose work is related to confined space, especially when hazardous elements are involved in the workplace.

Therefore, it is crucial to identify confined space hazards in the workplace. Additionally, the ability to conduct a confined space risk assessment is a must to identify the risk involved, safety measures taken, and confined space procedures.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Ensure all your employees have suitable PPE to undertake the work.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the hazards of confined space

  • Familiarize with safety equipment's

  • Identify resources available for rescue operation

 

Certification 

Certificates of Completion in “Confined Space Authorized Entrant &StandbyPerson” are awarded to participants who successfully complete two days of training (Competency Card validity for two years)
