Working in confined spaces is a dangerous business. Apart from the danger of being trapped, there are risks of suffocation, drowning, fire, overheating, poisonous fumes, and free-flowing liquids and solids.

In this half-day course, we look at the nature of these dangers, how to properly risk assess work in such a confined spaces, ways to avoid the need for entry, and emergency procedures.

Course Outline

Overview

This course covers the following modules: Health & Safety Law and Confined Space Regulations; What is confined space; types of confined space; exercise, risk assessment and hazards; safe systems of work and emergency procedure.

Aims and Objectives

This course aims to give individuals a thorough understanding of what confined spaces are, the dangers of confined spaces and how to avoid them. They will learn of different techniques but this will not enable individuals to enter or work in confined spaces. 

This is a half-day course.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, learners are expected to have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.

Who Should Attend

This course provides delegates with the basic skills and knowledge of confined spaces and how to identify spaces that have the potential to become Confined, and subsequently avoid them. It will also make them aware of the risks and the current legal obligations involved in such workplaces. It does not permit working in Confined Spaces.

The course is divided into seven topics:

  • Definitions

  • Duties

  • Risk assessments

  • Preventing the need for entry

  • Safe working in confined spaces

  • Emergency procedure

  • Plant and equipment

Course Benefits

This course will enable operatives to identify potential confined spaces they are creating in the working environment, enabling them to stop work and seek assistance if necessary. 

Certification

Learners will be given a Certificate of Attendance on successful completion of the course, valid for 3 years.
