Description

Participants will be equipped with skills and knowledge to operate an Elevating Work Platform (Boom length over 11 metres).

As a result of this program, participants will be able to:

  • access, interpret and apply technical and safety information for EWP

  • assess hazards and risk associated with operating an EWP

  • select, inspect, donn, doff and caring for PPE

  • perform EWP operation

 

Purpose

This unit of competency TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more) is targeted to participants who are maintenance workers, construction workers or those in the maritime industry where the worker is to operate an EWP.

 

Entry requirements

There are age restrictions set by the Work Health and Safety legislation, all participants must be at least 18 years of age to complete the National High Risk Work Licence Assessment.

This course requires the participant to comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Risk Assessment/ Job Safety Analyses. and the oral/written knowledge assessment.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Persons who undertake this program require sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to read, comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS), and the oral/written knowledge assessment.

 

Assessment requirement

Candidates must successfully complete all assessment activities in order to assessed as competent.

The assessment for EWP course is to be conducted using a combination of written theoretical assessment and practical assessment during simulated work-based scenarios.

The following assessment methods are to be applied to collect the required assessment evidence in accordance with training package requirements:

 

Performance Assessment

The candidate will be required to demonstrate their practical skills set integrated with their knowledge during practical assessment activities. These activities are sourced from varying equipment inspection, pre-operational site checks, equipment donning and doffing and also fault finding and reporting.

Trainers will regularly challenge test candidates throughout the course on varying equipment and mark their practical checklist accordingly.

All candidates are required to take part in a practical scenario to complete the course. While this is a group-based activity it allows all participants to show competence to undertake the activity with a holistic approach understanding all the varying roles and responsibilities.

 

Written Theory Assessment

The candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete the theory assessment comprising Section 1 Knowledge Assessment – 58 short answer & multiple-choice questions and Section 2 Calculations 8 questions.

These will be marked on the spot in order to provide the candidate with immediate feedback and to allow them to identify areas for further development.
