Every year a number of people are killed or seriously injured due to working in confined spaces, often because they are unaware of the dangers, poorly trained or do not have the correct safety equipment.
This working in confined spaces training course has been designed to prepare learners to work safely and identify the risks associated when working in confined spaces. Trainees will understand more about safe work practices, suitable control measures and what the law says in regards to staying safe at work.
The most common type of confined spaces found in the electricity industry are cable ducts and basement areas in sub-stations. Special precautions need to be taken when working in these locations, particularly with the introduction of hot works equipment.
The course covers correct use of an atmospheric testing device and safe monitoring processes to ensure safety in confined space areas. Permit areas documentation and requirements are also covered.
Peter Stuart established Wire and Fitness in 2014 after seeing an increasing need for high quality, highly specific training for people in the electrical and telco industries.
With a career spanning 30 years as a NZ Registered Electrician, specialising in the electricity distribution supply industry, Peter subsequently spent four years sub-contracting as a trainer to leading electricity and telco organisations nationwide.
It was during this time that the idea for Wire and Fitness was formed as Peter realised the need for his skills and training programmes was much bigger than the sub-contracting roles would allow.
The foundations on which Wire and Fitness is built come from Peter’s experience, expertise and knowledge working as a Substation Maintainer and Fault man, performing various roles within the industry including network switching up to 33kV, cable jointing, overhead line maintenance underground maintenance and distribution inspection roles. Peter has also worked on hydro generation sites and Transpower switchyards and assets.
Peter performed a specialist role with Kiwi Rail refurbishing the electric locos that came into the country early 90’s. He later worked as a Retail Metering Technician and as a Line Designer and Project Manager with Edison Consulting, working on multiple Powerco projects. Peter is also experienced in domestic and commercial industry wiring and maintenance.
