Common genres considered as contemporary music are jazz, funk, pop, electronic, and rock.
In contemporary music, it is also not uncommon to see two genres merged or fused to create an entirely new way of playing music. Examples would include pop rock, rhythm and blues, and jazz fusion. An important element of contemporary music is the freedom it allows musicians in terms of expression and interpretation of the music being played.
