The Centre not only provides training for certificates and diplomas in Counselling but also has a range of workshops designed to provide continuing professional development for practitioners. Examples of such courses include loss and bereavement, parental attachment, stress management, attachment styles, psychosexual therapy (a brief overview), suicide, legal implications in counselling, etc.
In addition to contributing to the therapist's continuing professional development such workshops provide an ideal opportunity for networking and joining together in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss best practice and issues of current concern.
Who are we?
The Liverpool Empowerment Centre, based in Rodney Street, Liverpool, is a combined therapy and training centre, specialising in counselling training, psychotherapy and counselling. It caters for clients and students throughout North West England.
More about us
The Centre was formed by Jo Edwards, a qualified and experienced psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, lecturer, and coach who has practised in Rodney Street for fifteen years. The Centre provides a range of personal therapies, clinics, workshops and accredited training.
Each of the practitioners is qualified and experienced in their range of therapies and where appropriate have clinical supervision and CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
All clients are initially assessed before a contract is agreed. The contract outlines the time, place, cost and likely duration of future sessions. The therapist will explain about the rules of confidentiality. Confidentiality is, of course, an integral part of the therapeutic relationship and all counselling and psychotherapy in general.
At the Liverpool Empowerment Centre all our therapists not only have the relevant qualifications and experience but also public liability insurance and where appropriate CRB checks (Criminal Records Bureau) and membership of an appropriate body whose ethical guidelines are followed such as the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and UKCP (the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). All adhere to their professional body's code of ethics including the requirement to have continuing professional development.
Early 2011 saw the commencement of accredited counselling courses and places for future courses can be applied for at any time. (These courses were taught by Jo Edwards at the Liverpool Community College for fourteen years but the College has ceased to hold them.)
These courses include Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts, Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Level 4 Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Counselling.
These are accredited by ABC Awards. Early in 2014 the Centre will commence three further courses - Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Theory, Level 5 Counselling in Independent Practice, and Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision - accredited by CPCAB.
