Course Details

Course Overview

This course, developed by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), equips participants with the necessary skills to manage traffic using a stop/slow bat at road worksites requiring road closures, at various events on the road necessitating full or partial closures, or in other situations requiring traffic control on roadways.

 

Course units include:

  • RIIWHS205E - Control traffic with stop-slow bat
  • RIICOM201E - Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS201E - Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures

Both of the following course components must be successfully completed and assessed before receiving accreditation (Part B must be completed within 3 (three) months of the classroom based theory):

  • 1 day classroom based theory
  • Practical component - Industry placement at worksite. Trainees must complete a minimum of 20 log book hours of (unpaid) practical experience under the direct supervision of an experienced accredited traffic controller.
    You may organise your own practical placement or Training Services may organise this placement for you through an approved Traffic Management Company, at no extra cost.

Participants will be provided with the following skills and competencies (but not limited) to:

Plan and prepare their work

  • Control traffic
  • Operate two way radios
  • Clean up their worksites

 

Prerequisites

  • 18 years +.
  • Photo identification.
  • Basic language, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Must have held an open or provisional drivers licence within the past 5 years
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card – CPCWHS1001 or equivalent) –required prior to performing the practical component of this course.
  • USI number. 
  • Course fees paid in full (see below).
  • Please be aware, some criminal convictions in the past 5 years may exclude you from obtaining accreditation. Please refer to the following information and contact TMR should you have concerns or questions concerning your ability to obtain your licence.
