This is a course intended for teams of professionals who work with people who are in a crisis relating to their mental health.
The Course Covers:
Day One
Key Crisis Skills 1:
Asking good questions (open, closed, extreme);
Mood-matching (why and how to do it);
Validating (what it is, why and how).
Understanding people in Crisis 1: Psychosis.
End of day Quiz, in small groups.
Day Two
Key Crisis Skills 2:
The use of ‘scaling (out of 10) questions’;
Helping the person to take action to respond to their situation better.
Understanding People in Crisis 2: Personality Disorder: what it is, how to manage it, and how to help longer term.
End of day Quiz, in small groups.
Day Three
Key Crisis Skills 3:
The importance of self-efficacy, and how to build it;
Problem solving techniques both for the patient and the professional;
Risk assessment and risk management.
Understanding people in Crisis 3: Suicide. Predictors and management (prevention) measures. Things to say that will help long term.

What you receive as a result of attending the training:
You will be registered as having attended the course, thereby gaining APT's Level 1 accreditation, and receive a certificate to this effect. The accreditation gives you access to online resources associated with the course and access to the online exam free of charge if you wish to uprate your APT accreditation to Level 2.
Your registration lasts indefinitely, and your accreditation lasts for 3 years and is renewable by sitting an online refresher which also upgrades your accreditation to APT Level 2 if you are successful in the associated online exam.
