This course is an introductory route into counselling as a profession or indeed to enhance valuable skills for work in a care setting. This course is suitable for those who have limited or no previous experience of counselling. The course is an introduction to the main approaches used in counselling. It does not in any way permit those who have achieved the course to refer to themselves as qualified counsellors.
Entry
There are no formal entry qualifications required, although all prospective students will be asked to attend an interview and must demonstrate a genuine interest in counselling and complete a piece of written work as part of the application process. This demonstrates the ability to work at SCQF Level 6, equivalent to Higher-level study.
If you have left school within the last five years, two qualifications at National 5/Highers level, are advantageous preferably in English and a social subject, as is having passion or experience of counselling/care work in a paid or voluntary capacity.
