Firearms Safety Courses are conducted to determine the competency of applicants for Firearms Licences, and will assist you to meet the requirements for obtaining a Firearms Licence in Tasmania. Training can be undertaken across firearms categories A, B, C, D and H.

To enrol in this course, you must have written approval from Tasmania Police. You may only enrol in the category of firearms course for which Tasmania Police approval has been given.
The course includes four hours theory in a classroom and four hours practical experience on a Tasmania Police-approved shooting range.
In the classroom, you will learn about the legislation that applies to firearms ownership and use in Tasmania, the different types of firearms and ammunition you may encounter, and the safety rules associated with shooting.
You’ll also learn about the practical aspects of using firearms safely and your obligations and responsibilities to community safety awareness, including legal and social responsibilities, the circumstances and consequences of firearms misuse, and ethics and assistance.
