Keen to learn to knit and follow a pattern? Are you an absolute beginner or one with some skills which are a bit rusty?
If this sounds like you, this seven week course is just what you are looking for. And we’d love to have you come along and learn the craft of knitting.
The vibe of this course will be informal. We’ll adapt the format to fit the interest of those attending. You will learn about the tools of the trade – knitting needles, yarn types and patterns.
The type of projects we have in mind include knitting a cotton dishcloth or a scarf. Or you could start by knitting a sample square of varying stitches. Or, you are welcome to come along with an existing project. A small selection of stitch patterns will be supplied.
Please note: Materials and needles will be supplied for your first class although you are welcome to bring materials or existing project.
Suggested Materials list for a scarf – students to bring:
5mm knitting needles ($4-$10 in cost)
1 darning needle
4x balls 8ply Double Knit (DK) yarn (3 balls per scarf)
Suggested Materials list for a dishcloth – students to bring:
5mm knitting needles ($4-$10 in cost)
1 darning needle
2x balls 8ply Cotton
(Total materials cost $20-$30 depending on yarn choice. All items can often be sourced in op-shops very cheaply)
Guide:
Double Knit (also known as worsted weight or Aran) yarn knits up quite quickly without having to use very thick needles so it is a good beginner yarn weight. Thick needles are more difficult to handle than thinner ones.
Yarn prices can vary from $3 at The Warehouse upwards to $20 or even $40 per ball depending on fibre type and brand. Choose yarns to suit your budget.
