Course Details

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely work as a Crane/Lifting Supervisor. This course includes theory and practical elements, with tests being conducted on each.

 

Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities
  • Explain the duties and responsibilities of those involved in lifting operations
  • Interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation
  • Explain maintenance, inspection, thorough examination and testing requirements
  • Describe setting up, erection, levelling and dismantling requirements
  • Identify different types of lifting accessories and explain their typical applications
  • Explain the importance of checking the security of various types of loads and lifting accessories
  • Explain the function and use of the RCI, LMI and anti-collision systems
  • Explain how factors, such as the external area to the lift zone, can affect the planning of the lift
  • Verify appropriate lifting accessories and confirm weights, sling sizes, angles and centres of gravity
  • Prepare an area with exclusion zones, ensuring safe access/egress routes and identifying any hazards
  • Explain and demonstrate diverse types of communication methods
  • Communicate the lift plan information to others involved in the lifting operation
  • Supervise the movement of loads to different locations, using different communication methods
  • Identify potential hazards and unsafe lifting practices using different lifting scenarios
  • Carry out all out of service and securing procedures.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the CPCS tests, delegates will be issued with a CPCS Trained Operator Card (red), valid for 2 years (non-renewable).
