A collaborative group based class focused on improving reading and writing skills, expanding vocabulary, developing creative thinking, increasing the ability to analyze text and exploring self-expression through a variety of instructor-led creative writing literacy activities. All learning resources are carefully selected by both the Instructor and adults to ensure maximum interest and relevance.
Classes are often instructed by leading-edge authors and poets in the Edmonton community who have a deep desire to share their passions with marginalized adult citizens. Oftentimes the classroom instructional environment builds on the students’ prior knowledge and experiences and is oriented towards their personal creative writing goals.

“The most transformative skill to come out of our cooking program was not a cooking skill. This learner is Deaf with some cognitive delays. She is a keen learner and loves to show you what she has learned. We knew that the format of our cooking program would be a challenge for her as technology is a struggle for her. She had recently purchased an iPad and had no experience in how to use it.
We began by teaching her how to open an email before she could even participate in the program. With the help of support staff at the group home and patient instructors, she was able to figure out the basics of using her iPad. In this training, your time will be devoted to writing letters of recommendation, of persuasion, of refusal or of action, that reflect current word usage and up-to-date formats.
Throughout this course, students learned about their own stories and were given tools to share them with others.
 The main objective of this course is to help students grow as writers, both in developing the craft and as critical thinkers about fiction and the writing process.
This course covers developing story ideas, pitching, researching, reporting and non-fiction writing for publication in print or online
By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of polished writing in three genres.
