Topics Covered
Initially you will explore writing in four different forms: prose fiction, prose nonfiction, scriptwriting and poetry. In your second year you will create an extended piece of writing as part of the Extended Project Qualification, as well as delivering a presentation about your work.
The course is taught in a workshop format with a strong emphasis on collaborative work, sharing and discussing our writing.
You will have opportunities to write in a variety of genres and for a variety of media (print, TV, radio and digital). You will have the chance to work with professional writers and explore how to pursue a career involving writing

Good writing relies on a basic understanding of grammar and how words fit together. We’ll examine some basic guidelines and rules of constructing well-written sentences and paragraphs, using good (and bad) examples of academic writing.
Writing is similar to the opening of a chess game: the pieces must be put in place at the start. The key to successful stories and descriptions lies in structure and planning. Both of these are at the heart of what we do in creative writing.
