About Us
We are regenerating Sunny Bank Mills from a textile mill into the leading creative space for art, culture and business in the area. This process started in 2010 and was cemented in a masterplan that was agreed with Leeds City Council in 2015.
Imaginative and exciting regeneration is taking place continually with the first 9 years largely spent repurposing buildings internally into office and retail space. We are now in an external phase which is seeing transformational changes to Sunny Bank Mills.
History
1829 – Beginnings
Sunny Bank Mills are founded by group of local clothiers who invest together to purchase land and build a woollen scribbling and fulling mill, known as The Farsley Club Mill. John Gaunt is appointed as one of the trustees to run the mill.
1882 - Edwin Woodhouse
Edwin Woodhouse purchases the majority shares in Sunny Bank Mills and becomes the outright owner. He greatly expands the Mills over the next three decades and commences worsted spinning and weaving.
1912 – Ives And Co
Edwin Woodhouse has no son to pass the mill on to and sells his interest to James Ives & Co. of Yeadon. The mill has a renowned reputation for producing fine worsted cloth.
Write your own poetry, find your way with fiction, shape scripts, explore creative non-fiction and try your hand at experimental writing.
Enjoy being creative. Write about self and others. Link mindfulness and nature to your writing. Consider and highlight the healing nature of writing and self-expression in general.
We’ve all become increasingly aware of the importance of language in creating inclusive and equitable work cultures. Words matter, and many words and phrases seem antiquated and even shocking today.
Good writing relies on a basic understanding of grammar and how words fit together. We’ll examine some basic guidelines and rules of constructing well-written sentences and paragraphs, using good (and bad) examples of academic writing.
These workshops are aimed to inspire and encourage the stories and ideas in your head and onto paper. Each session has a mix of poetry and tales told by Sheena Blackwell as stimulus and participants can express in writing and illustration as they wish. We provide a notebook and pencil in your first
