This course will teach the learner about credit risk management. The course will provide enhanced discussions pertaining to micro and macro lending, the credit cycle, and the general term of "credit." 

 

After completing this program, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand credit scores, bureaus, and reports, and how to use them in lending decisions.
  • Examine how lenders diversify their portfolios and control risk.
  • Describe how to establish the 5 C's of Credit, and detail each phase in the credit cycle.
 
 
Content:
  • T1. What is Credit Risk Management: This topic will provide the learner with an introduction to credit risk management; the process of monitoring and addressing the potential for loss associated with lending money, so that the learner understands the purpose of assessing risk and the types of credit risk management.
  • T2. Micro Lending: This topic will teach the learner about micro lending, including an overview of the elements that go into a micro lending decision, so that the learner understands how decisions are made at the micro level.
  • T3. Macro Lending: This topic will provide the learner with an overview of macro lending, including a discussion of what to look at when assessing risk at the macro level, so that the learner can describe the correct way to monitor and predict risk.
  • T4. The Credit Cycle: This topic will provide the learner with an in-depth understanding of the stages of the credit cycle so that the learner can describe in detail each phase in the credit cycle and identify when it appears.
  • T5. Optimize Risk and Reward: This topic will teach the learner about the direct relationship between risk and reward through examining how lenders diversify their portfolios and the ways that lenders control risk by controlling credit losses.
  • T6. The 5 CÆs of Credit: This topic will provide the learner with an overview of the details, better known as the ô5 CÆs,ö to consider when making a credit decision: character, cash flow, capacity, collateral, and conditions.
  • T7. Establishing the 5 CÆs: This topic will enable the learner to describe how lenders determine the parameters of a borrowerÆs 5 CÆs of Credit, including using tools such as credit scores, debt balances, and debt-to-income ratios.
  • T8. Credit Bureaus: This topic will evaluate the purpose and usefulness of credit bureau agencies to lenders when considering a borrowerÆs acceptability.
  • T9. Credit Bureau Reports: This topic will deliver further material concerning credit bureau reports and the appraisal of such information, which includes the borrowerÆs credit history, balance information, and more.
  • T10. Credit Scoring and Lending Decisions: This topic will familiarize the lender with how credit scoring works and how it applies to lending decisions, by providing instruction on the two primary uses for credit scores and the possible lending decisions that the lender may make.
