Course Details

The program begins by teaching the skills of a cutter; how to connect and consult with a premiere clientele, the essentials of pattern-making, a broad spectrum of figuration faults, and how to properly address and correct them.

Students are challenged to put their theoretical understanding into practice as they learn through hands-on experience how to measure, pattern, cut and custom-fit their garments. Soft-structured Tailoring The second part of the program introduces tailoring techniques.

Students will learn an extensive range of hand stitches, how to shape a garment foundation, design and tailor a variety of pocket styles, design and shape lapels and collars, and how to set structured roped sleeves.

Students are then taught the soft-structured tailoring techniques that they will use to hand tailor their three-piece gentlemen’s or ladies’ suits to exacting standards.

What does a cutter do:

A cutter is the sartorial project manager and depending on the size of the tailoring house, they may or may not be involved in the sales process. In larger tailoring houses, a sales associate will largely be responsible for meeting with the client to measure and assist them in choosing the type of cloth and the various design elements of the garment.

They then pass this information along to a cutter. However, in smaller establishments, a cutter will have all these responsibilities. To learn more about your career options in the tailoring industry, schedule a consultation.
