Data Analytics (Intro)

A good appreciation of how data analysis is an important element in any data scientists daily work in today’s data driven workplace. As an example, for non-programming team members, understanding databases and SQL is a super-valuable skill. It allows them access to data that was once held hostage by database teams.

Data analysis is abstract and strictly not math alone. It requires a hands-on approach in order to truly understand the pitfalls good analysts will face. And in today’s business world, data analysis is not limited to data scientists. It is also key for business analysts, system engineers, financial teams, marketing, human resource, and so on.

This course has thus been designed to provide a basic and yet comprehensive platform to be educated in the field of data analytics.

• Elaborate what data analytics is and the different types of data analytics - descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive
• Differentiate the differences between business and data analytics
• Basic understanding of common languages used in analytics
• Understand the various data (variable) types
• Exposed to basic data coding and coding systems
• Appreciate how statistical process is important within analytics
• Analyse data using pivot tables and basic tools in Microsoft Excel
• Knowing when to apply analytics in various situations
• Explain the future of analytics
