Course Details

In this rapidly changing field of contemporary graphic design, our program offers professional skills combined with exposure to cultural issues relevant to the field.

Through a range of tiered courses, students acquire abilities in the essentials of design, a love of typography, current software usage, best practices in design for screens, devices and printed matter.

An exploration of current aspects of human-centered design and ethical questions encourage good citizenship with a larger perspective. Understanding historical precedents gives students a context for their own design work, while examining the relationship between design and commerce prepares them for their career ahead.

Students are encouraged students to develop ongoing cultural-awareness, individual areas of stylistic proclivities and personal design-passions, thus opening avenues for ongoing self-development and professional achievement.

A graphic designer uses text, images and graphics to build on the basic elements of design: line, shape, color, and balance. Students of graphic design use their visual abilities to create functional designs for print, websites and apps.

Our labs are equipped with the latest software and technology, and instructors with professional backgrounds, so students acquire both technical skills and skills of creative critical thinking, prepared to meet the demands of the professional world. This concentration leads to the development of a cohesive body of work, a professional portfolio, and BFA exhibition.

Transfer students may have up to 30 credits from an Associates in Fine Arts Degree applied to major course requirements in the BFA program if approved by a faculty advisor or the department chair.
