Dental Assisting Program specifics
Theory classes are held 3-days a week from 8am until 5pm, with Clinic held on evenings and weekends. Students will learn both in the classroom and in our modern, fully equipped dental clinic.
SODC follows the curriculum established by the Ontario Dental Assistants Association and the NDAEB. Upon graduation the students write the NDAEB examination in order to be licensed in Ontario.
Dental Assisting Program Level I
In Level I, the students learn chair-side assisting duties. These duties include assisting both the dentist and dental hygienist, taking and developing X-rays, mixing dental materials, oral hygiene instruction, infection control, instrument sterilization and more.
Dental Assisting Program Level II
Level II allows the student more intra-oral duties. They include taking impressions, pit and fissure sealants, applying anticariogenic agents, rubber dam placement, coronal polishing, and application of topical anesthetics. Included in Level II is an in-office practicum.

Whether they have just graduated high school or desire a career change, SODC provides all students with the assistance to realize their dreams of a career in dental health.
Being a fully licensed and accredited College, SODC adheres to all of the rules and regulations that are outlined with regulatory bodies such as Organizations and Private Career Colleges Act 2005, CDAC, MCU, CDHO, NDHCB, and NDAEB.
We are proud to have an articulation agreement with Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. Successful applicants receive up to 54 PLAR credits. Students must complete another 66 credits from TRU in order to receive this degree.
This program helps to prepare students to provide the services of a certified dental assistant as outlined in the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCHOP)* Bylaws under the Health Professions Act of British Columbia.
This course is designed for Level II Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists who want to gain exposure to and assist with intra-oral procedures.
The Dental Assisting (Levels I and II) Ontario College Certificate program gives you the ability to work professionally, ethically and collaboratively within a healthcare team to provide oral care for clients.
Dental assistants work as part of the oral health team, assisting dentists and dental specialists, carrying out direct patient care and instructing patients in the principles and practices of good oral health.
