Programme Objective

This new course is specially created for Finance professionals who want to learn the fundamentals of Python in a day. The Python language is an easy programming language to learn for beginners as its code is relatively easy to read, resembling everyday English we speak.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of Python as they are guided through a series of hands-on coding exercises related to financial analysis.

Through a mix of short presentations and carefully crafted fun exercises, participants will learn how to write simple and straightforward Python codes to make sense of datasets related to companies’ financials. Simple visualisation of data will also be covered.

 

Programme Outline

  • Introduction to Juptyer Notebooks

  • Introduction to variables and their manipulation, lists, NumPy arrays, subsetting and indexing of lists and arrays, Pandas and dataframes, functions, loop and conditional methods

  • Visualize data using simple plotting techniques

  • Use of Python to understand a financial dataset (case study involving financial analysis of companies listed in the S&P index)
