This course provides many of the theoretical and practical aspects of diabetes management needed in providing comprehensive diabetes care.
The goals and objectives of the course are modeled on the requirements for the Certified Diabetes Educator Exam and will provide much of the background needed in preparation for writing this exam.
Topics covered in the course include (but are not limited to): review of the diabetes disease processes, nutrition and exercise management of diabetes, self-care strategies and strategies to reduce the risk of complications due to diabetes, management of hypo- and hyperglycemia, appropriate blood glucose monitoring, management of diabetes in special situations such as diabetes in pregnancy, in children, adolescents and the elderly, and management of complex patients.
