Learning Outcomes
Identify the most up-to-date UK Diabetes Dietary Guidelines.
Explain the need to enrol patients into diabetes education programmes
Identify oral hypoglycaemic agents, insulin and other therapies for the treatment of diabetes with respect to NI prescribing practices
Recognise the role of carbohydrate and be able to advise appropriately about carbohydrate, GI and GL
Discuss different social and emotional factors that can hinder a person’s compliance with diet and lifestyle changes
Translate theory into practice in variety of clinical scenarios
Reflect on current practice and identify strategies for increasing knowledge and skiDiscuss how the dietetic competencies impact on the NI access diabetes criteria & implementation of the care pathways for community and hospital inpatients across the region
Audience
Any Band 5 or 6 Dietitian for whom diabetes is not their speciality
The course is suitable for any Dietitians who wish to increase their diabetes knowledge with a view to practising at specialist level
