Course Details

This course is structured for emerging filmmakers & media creators who need a comprehensive introduction to all phases for film production.

Our method of teaching is hands-on with real film equipment and an actual production of your own short film.

You will learn everything that goes into creating a film and your final film will be eligible to screen at multiple showcases produced by Austin School of Film. A portion of this class includes feedback of work-in-progress.

Topics covered include:

  • concept + pitching

  • screenwriting for film, creating your screenplay

  • casting, actors and auditions

  • production management & scheduling

  • crew roles

  • directing actors and crew members

  • sound recording

  • shooting: cameras, lights, art direction

  • marketing your film

  • entering festivals

This class will feature guest artists, filmmakers and industry professionals who work & live in Austin, Texas. At the end of this course students will have completed a short film from start to finish, networked with both new & established filmmakers, & attained new skills to keep creating films.
