Program Description:

Would you like your students to explore new technologies and learn to code but you aren’t sure where to start? The Internet of Things is an ideal way to introduce coding as a skill of the future that underpins how we will live and interact with our surroundings.

The micro:bit is a computer that Primary students can easily code or use sensors with to test their surroundings. It is small enough to hold in your hand, with all sorts of features you can use to interact with the world. We can even connect the micro:bit to other pieces of hardware to do even more things.

This program will involve a 90-minute face to face session or online sesson.

The workshop will focus on:

  • understanding how our homes, farms and cities are now “smarter” by being connected through devices using the internet,

  • learning about coding through using a micro:bit,

  • unpacking Australian Curriculum aligned resources to support the Digital Technologies curriculum.

“The lesson plans enable any teacher to access the Digital Technologies curriculum without feeling overwhelmed or underprepared. The curriculum links and lesson content are all in one place and the sequence of lessons, which link to real world scenarios, move in a timely and organised way, introducing new concepts and mini-inquiries throughout.” Andy Prideaux, Teacher & Curriculum Coordinator, Scotch Oakburn College

Participants will:

  • understand how new technologies are supporting our daily lives

  • understand how to introduce coding in the Upper Primary years

  • have full access to the Australian Curriculum Digital Technologies aligned resources to use with their classes.
