Our digital transformation research theme reflects the importance of evolving digital solutions in both academic and public interests. We collaborate closely with the other research themes within our business school to offer specialised support and effective information management strategies.

As part of our work, we investigate the application and impact of digital technologies for:

  • Business model innovations
  • Public service delivery
  • Sustainable and inclusive growth

Our work contributes to both the public and private sectors. This includes a focus on frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, blockchains, and the metaverse.

Our objectives
By studying evolving technologies and how they can be used for positive change, we seek to:

  • Develop innovative artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics applications for commercial sectors
  • Drive the transformation of digital industries and services, with an emphasis on FinTech
  • Develop big data frameworks to optimise operations and decision making, using the five V's of big data: volume, velocity, variety, veracity and value
  • Explore digital technologies to address environmental challenges such as circular economy transitions, inclusive entrepreneurship, and responsible production
  • Encourage idea sharing between teams at Sheffield Business School, Sheffield Hallam University, and industry partners
