The Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner Level 2 will prepare you with the skills to work with children between birth and 5 years, and give you the knowledge and understanding for children up to 7 years.
Ideal if
Ideal if you want a good, solid foundation for starting a career in Early Years. It will help you to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work in this sector. This course is aimed at people who have little or no experience of working in a nursery or childcare environment.
What to expect
This programme includes two additional short courses in Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent & Award in Mental Health Support.
Work Placement
You will need to be working or volunteering in a childcare placement, with children aged between birth to 5 years, as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations. A work placement is required for 1 day per week.

These qualifications will enable you to progress in a wide range of childcare roles including:
Nursery assistant
Pre-school assistant
Foundation unit – class assistant
You could progress on to do a Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship.

The company is a full member of the Devon Cornwall & Plymouth Training Providers Network that acts as a forum for local training providers and have formed good relationships with a wide range of other external organisations, including our parent company, City College Plymouth. These partnership arrangements are extremely useful and enable ATL to provide a service to employers and learners which go beyond just training.
This is the first step into teaching or training post 16 students and you will learn about the responsibilities of the teacher, how people learn and how to plan, teach and assess learning. You will put all of this into practice when you teach your peers in a micro teach at the end of the course.
