This course is a two-year diploma that is the full teaching qualification for the further education sector and offers an innovative experience which will transform your teaching through practice, reflection and support. Best practice is modelled throughout the course and your friendly course team will guide you through the transformational experience.
This course is for teachers and trainers working in Further Education Colleges, Adult and Community Learning, 14-19 units in Schools and Academies, Private Training Organisations, Prison Education and the Public services (Police, Paramedics, Fire Service).

What's Next
After the first year of the course, it is a requirement to continue on to the second year in order to achieve the qualification. Partial achievement is not possible on this course.
After the 2 year course you can progress to employment in further education colleges, adult and community learning, 14-19 units in schools and academies, sixth form colleges, private training organisations, prison education and training within the public services.
Further qualifications that can be pursued after the course include Qualified Teacher of Learning & Skills (QTLS), Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) and the Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (IQA).
Entry criteria
Successful interview and initial assessment for this level 5 course.
Qualified to a minimum of Level 2 in maths and English.
For those who wish to teach academic subjects, a degree in the subject specialism is expected.
For those who wish to teach vocational subjects, it is expected to either be qualified at least one level above the highest level intended to teach, or provide evidence of substantial professional experience in the subject.
Access 150 hours teaching practice over 2 years, including between 20 and 50 hours live online delivery.
Access to two placements that total 250 hours practice over 2 years, including a primary and a separate subsidiary placement.
Access to a fully qualified subject specialist mentor.

Our full-time programmes last for one academic year, from September to July. As a trainee teacher, you’ll be based at one of our partner schools, where you’ll learn to teach alongside expert classroom practitioners in an exciting, vibrant environment.
During the course you will be taught about how to support children’s development within a school environment and how a school provides curriculum support to children. The course consists of units that will each be assessed with a written task and a practical assessment.
This aims to develop your understanding of ways to encourage children's thinking about themes such as Global Citizenship, Ethical Enterprise & the Sustainable Development Goals.
At City of Glasgow College we recognise and acknowledge the importance of industry engagement to address the skills demands of industry.
On the PGCE, you’ll get hands-on experience on placement and will discover creative ways to teach English, with guidance from our experienced staff. You’ll also draw on newspapers, advertising and film.
