  • Entry requirements: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent

 

Pathways into this qualification:

Individuals may undertake lower level qualifications, and/or gain industry experience prior to entering into the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management. However, this is not mandatory.

 

Pathways from this qualification:

After achieving SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management, individuals could progress to SIT60322 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or higher education qualifications in management.

Assessment methods:

Assessment is both formative (assessed over a period of time in order to provide feedback to students and enhance learning) and summative (assessment to determine competency). Competency determination is made after evidence gathered is based on a combination of classroom activities, question and answer activities, case studies, role play activities, including projects.

 

Work placement:

The work placement component of this course allows the student to apply their skills and knowledge to work effectively in a hospitality environment and provide service to customers during service periods. Students are able to do this while they are completing their SIT50422 – Diploma of Hospitality Management qualification.

Since there are no core skills to learn prior to working in a front-of-house situation and training is performed by the workplace to their standards and processes, work placement can occur throughout the 48 weeks of the qualification and consists of 36 shifts (100 hours) for SITHIND008 Work Effectively in hospitality service.

Note that the work placement component of this course is to be performed in addition to the 20 hours per week course contact hours. In other words, the work placement shifts are to be performed outside of class times.

 

The student has the option to complete their work placement in the following manner:

  •  At their current place of employment or a work place organised by themselves as long as the work place identified by the student is verified by a JPIC assessor at the earliest opportunity as being appropriate for hospitality or commercial use.

  • If they do not have employment in the hospitality industry, JPIC can place them in an appropriate JPIC verified hospitality work place or commercial kitchen. However, this may be in a volunteer capacity.
