  • This course builds on the skills gained in the Certificate IV in Project Management Practice. It will give you the essential skills and knowledge of current project management practices.
  • The Diploma allows you to expand and extend your already existing management skills with units that will teach you an understanding of management in many fields. Completing this qualification will help you in a career as a contract coordinator, project manager, quality administrator or risk management professional.

TAFE+ intensive program

  • Eager to get the Diploma of Project Management but short on time? Our intensive program is designed for people who work in Project Management roles. Initially you will attend classes for six days on campus and then complete assessments using work related projects that you are currently working on or have recently completed.

This course is competitive so it is likely the number of applicants will exceed available places. When applying for this course you will need to show you have the minimum level reading, writing, and math skills, or certain qualifications, and meet selection criteria.
Please note that school leavers or those with little work experience may wish to consider commencing their training in this field by first completing the Certificate IV in Project Management Practice.
You will need to be employed in a project leadership and management role where you will be able to undertake project management duties and manage a project.  
You should also have a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical, and managerial competencies to initiate, plan, execute and evaluate your own work and/or the work of others.  
Part of your assessment will be undertaken in your workplace – we recommend you also speak to your employer to ensure they support this. 

To complete the course within one year, and this is the recommended option, we suggest you:

  • Complete 6 units per semester (6 months)
  • Take part in regularly scheduled online sessions
  • Spend 10 - 12 hours per week individual study

To spread the course load over one and a half to two years, you'll need to:

  • Complete 3 - 5 units per semester (6 months)
  • Take part in regularly scheduled online sessions
  • Spend 6 - 10 hours per week individual study

  • A North Metropolitan TAFE Diploma qualifies you for entry into undergraduate degrees at all WA universities.  
  • Upon successful completion of BSB50820 Diploma of Project Management at NMTAFE, you will meet university entrance requirements and will be eligible for advanced standing/ credit into undergraduate Commerce or Business degrees or degrees specialising in project management.  The major and minor subjects you choose to study as part of your degree will influence the amount of credit you will be awarded. 
  • Diploma qualifications may be awarded credit for up to 8 units, which is equivalent to a study reduction of 1 year at university.
  • Successful completion of this Diploma of Project Management may see you eligible for up to 120 credit points or up to 8 units of credit/recognition of prior learning (CRPL)/advanced standing into ECU's W23 Bachelor of Commerce.

Further information

  • This qualification is not suitable for school leavers as it reflects the role of individuals in project leadership and management roles  who are responsible for applying management skills and knowledge to their work. Students should have a significant work history to draw on to be able to relate to the course content.
  • National qualifications are updated regularly and the transition to the new qualifications may result in additional studies.

  • Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.
