Display Screen Equipment – Computer work areas and equipment can create a number of issues associated with arm pains, back, neck, shoulder, eyestrains and fatigue. These associated aches and pains are sometimes called upper limb disorders (ULDs) or repetitive strain injuries (RSI), but these problems can be avoided by following good practice.

The Regulations require all workstations to be assessed to ensure compliance with the law. This action is not only a legal requirement but can also help reduce absence and improve efficiency. The Health and Safety Regulations aim to protect the health of people who work with Display Screen Equipment (DSE).

This does not indicate that DSE work is a risk – it isn’t, if the user follows good practice like setting up their workstation well and taking breaks in intensive work. Ensuring people use IT equipment in a safe way is a vital part of any risk assessment and can help protect your staff from the increasing risk of aches, pains and more serious injuries caused through the prolonged incorrect use of equipment.

This course will allow you to train your staff as in-house DSE assessors. As well as demonstrating legal compliance with the (DSE) Regulations, this course will help improve the health and safety culture in your workplace.
