Course covers the basics of hazardous materials: physical and chemical properties, toxicity, hazard communication as well as personal protective equipment which may be required when handling hazardous materials during packaging and shipping.
Spill response and instrumentation is also covered. Students learn how to use the DOT Hazardous Materials Table, and how to complete shipping papers, package, mark, and label. IATA requirements can be incorporated into the class.
