Jenny and Nicolene offer the opportunity to develop confidence in the basic or advanced dressmaking skills required to ensure the completion of a professionally finished garment.
The New Plymouth Sewing School, Originally Jenny's Sewing School moved from Spotlight ten years ago to the purpose built spacious well equipped classroom in the heart of New Plymouth. Everybody works at their own individual pace on a garment of their own choice. Classes become a very creative and social mix of students who all have a passion for sewing.
Classes are limited to 10 students per class. Students provide their own sewing machines but spare machines are available if required. Twelve classes in total are run each week including mornings, afternoons and evening. Weekend classes and workshops are also now available.
Jenny has run sewing classes in New Plymouth and Wellington over the last 35 years. Jenny and Nicolene provide a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in which to learn to sew. New Plymouth is lucky to have this facility available.
This is a 8 week beginner course, that covers from threading your machine and reading a pattern, to making a simple project.
Students learn the basics of sewing in a simple, creative and fun way. While enjoying learning to sew, children and youth develop important life and career skills such as problem-solving, patience and perseverance.
In this course students will be guided in the process of creating a character profile. Students will engage with ideation and analysis in developing their creative work. Students will work in a creative studio environment and be introduced to model-making, industrial sewing and 3D printing.
This class will require you to do prep before at home so book now. It you love the By ANNIE'S patterns and never had the confidence to make one here is your chance.
This class is on Thursday evenings and includes how to pad a form/dressmakers dummy to your desired size and then how to make a basic pattern from draping fabric on the form to make a simple bodice or skirt.
