The program combines lectures, group discussions, hands-on practical experience, video presentations, and guest speakers.
This program aims to provide students with the skills to work in the child care field. Students learn about child development, play, communication and child/family/community relations, and program planning.
Graduates are equipped to support healthy development of children through child-centred learning practices.
This program is approved by the Child Care Brach of Alberta Children's services as meeting the current educational standards for certification of Early Childhood Educators in Alberta.
Graduates of the certificate program will meet the program requirements to obtain the Level 2 Early Childhood Educator through Alberta Children’s Services.
There is no Prior Learning or Transfer Credit available for this program. The ELCC Program is not transferable to other Alberta post-secondary institutions.
Admission
Field Placement Prerquisites
Successful completion of English 30-1 or 30-2 or equivalent verified by transcript;
Successful completion of the General Equivalency Development test (GED) with a standard score of 520 in Language Arts: Reading and Writing verified by transcript;
Successful completion of the CDI College Admissions Test.
Must be at least 19 years of age prior to admission.
Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of three years of full-time secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction;
Transcripts demonstrating successful completion of one year of full-time post-secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction;
Minimum score on an approved ELP Test.
Clear Police Information Check (PIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS). International or out-of-province students arriving in Canada less than 6 months prior to the program start date should obtain PICs in their home country or province.
