This course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0-5 years. The qualification content meets requirements of the Department for Education’s (DfE).
Course Content
The course combines an e-portfolio with on line group sessions, tutorial support and classroom based workshops. Access to computer facilities including microphone and webcam is essential when studying this course.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You will be interviewed by a tutor and undertake a piece of free writing to determine if Early Years is the right career choice for you. You will also be screened for your levels of maths and English which should be at level 2.
You must be working or volunteering in an Early Years setting for a minimum of two days per week (minimum of 12 hours).
You must be able to attend your setting before the children arrive or at the end of the day, after they have left so that you can be involved in planning activities and setting up resources.
First Class Requirements
To help retain new information, we recommmend you come prepared to take notes during teaching and learning sessions e.g. by bringing a notebook and pen to the first class. Highlighter pens can also be useful.
Attendance Requirements
Attendance at arranged on-line sessions, workshops and classroom session is mandatory. In addition you will keep a log of your attendance at your work placement and this will be monitored by your tutor/assessor.
Assessment Methods
Your tutor will assess your written work on-line. Your workplace assessor will visit your setting during your course to observe you putting your knowledge into practice with the children. Throughout the course your professional competencies will be assessed.
Further Study Options
At the end of your course you will be assessed to determine whether you have the academic ability and professional competencies required to progress to the next level.

This course provides a great stepping stone to our Level 3 sports programmes. Previous students starting at Level 2 Sport have progressed through Level 3 and are succeeding at Level 5 on our Foundation Degree.
This module will introduce students to language awareness, give an overview of approaches to language analysis for TESOL in the linguistic fields of phonetics, syntax, morphology, semantics, pragmatics and discourse.
You will also gain an understanding of how and where to access available sporting opportunities. At the end of the course, successful candidates will have an industry-recognised qualification, equipping them to work in a multitude of sport and leisure facilities.
