Requirements:

  • In order to earn the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Economics, students must complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits with a cumulative and major grade point average of 2.00, including the following:

I. Core Curriculum Requirements
Module I: Engaging Academic Inquiry

  • UCOR 1100 - Academic Writing Seminar
  • UCOR 1200 - Quantitative Reasoning (satisfied in major)
  • UCOR 1300 - Creative Expression and Interpretation
  • UCOR 1400 - Inquiry Seminar in the Humanities
  • UCOR 1600 - Inquiry Seminar in the Social Sciences
  • UCOR 1800 - Inquiry Seminar in the Natural Sciences (or BIOL 1610/1611, 2200, CHEM 1500/1501, PHYS 1050/1051, 1210/1211)

Module II: Engaging Jesuit Traditions

  • UCOR 2100 - Theological Explorations
  • UCOR 2500 - Philosophy of the Human Person
  • UCOR 2910 - Ethical Reasoning Business

Module III: Engaging the World

  • UCOR 3100 - Religion in a Global Context
  • UCOR 3400 - Humanities and Global Challenges
  • UCOR 3800 - Natural Sciences and Global Challenges

II. Major Requirements
70 credits, including:

  • ECON 2100 - Business Statistics
  • ECON 2130 - Principles of Economics - Macro
  • ECON 2110 - Principles of Economics - Micro
  • ECON 3100 - Quantitative Methods and Applications
  • ECON 3110 - Intermediate Microeconomics
  • ECON 3130 - Global and Domestic Macroeconomics

ECON Electives (30)

  • Choose from upper division ECON courses, excluding ECON 4890.  FINC 3430 may be included.  A minimum of 10 credits must be from: ECON 3500, 3610, 3620, 3630, 4110 , 4120,  4660 , 4680,  4690, and FINC 3430 .

Choose one of two courses for senior synthesis:

  • ECON 4800 - History of Economic Thought
  • ECON 4890 - Senior Research (with permission of department chair)

Calculus, choose one of the following two courses:

  • MATH 1130 - Elements of Calculus for Business
  • MATH 1334 - Calculus I (preferred)

III. Additional Requirements

  • General electives to total 180 (55)

ACCT 2300 Principles of Financial Accounting and BCOM 2800 Communications for Business are recommended general electives.

Note: Internships or independent study courses may not satisfy major requirements.
