EKG Technicians are a critical member of the patient care team found in physician offices, emergency rooms, and hospital-based cardiology clinics across the country. EKGs are also performed before and after operations, during physical examinations of patients over 40, for patients with a history of heart disease, when patients are experiencing chest pains, and when the doctor deems it necessary.
The EKG Technician Certificate includes theory and hands-on instruction during the seven-week program. Students will learn anatomy of the cardiovascular system, electrophysiology, lead placement, types of rhythms, AV blocks, and myocardial infarction. Students will also learn the basics of HIPAA security and privacy as it relates to the profession.
Hands-on training in 12-lead EKG placement, heart rate calculation, and rhythm strip interpretation are also performed. Individuals interested in starting a career in the medical field, nursing or physician assistant school applicants, prospective patient care technicians, current nurses, or those looking to develop skills may benefit from this program. This certificate program will assist students in preparing for the National Healthcareer Association Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam.

Students will learn the role of the EKG Technician, including safety and compliance specific to the role. This course includes information on patient preparation and EKG acquisition. Students will learn about analysis and interpretation of EKG results.
