Course Details

An a-line, elastic waistband skirt that's a staple for any wardrobe and provides a lot of versatility.

You can make it short to wear over leggings, knee length for summer days, or even maxi (full length). If you choose to make this longer for your kiddo it can grow with your little one. They're easy peasy to make and you'll undoubtedly want to make more.

 

What You'll Learn

  • Working with a pattern and cutting out fabric

  • Hemming

  • Making a casing for elastic

  • Creating patch or side-seam pockets

 

Prerequisites

This class is for anyone who already knows how to sew, or the confident beginner who knows how to use a sewing machine and basic sewing techniques.

 

Tools & Supplies

You will need:

  • Quilting cotton - see sizes below for yardage

  • 1/2" wide elastic - see sizes below for yardage

  • Sewing machine - Please review the tools & supplies list carefully for any machine hardware requirements or contact us with any questions.

  • Sewing kit:

    • Pins or clips

    • Pin cushion (if you're using pins)

    • Scissors

    • Snips

    • Seam ripper

    • Fabric markers or chalk

    • Measuring tape

    • Ruler

    • Cutting mat

    • Rotary cutter

    • Extra sewing machine needles

  • All-purpose thread

 

Kids/Adults Sizes

  • Fabric

    • Above the knee or shorter: 1 1/2 yards

    • Maxi: 2 1/2 yards

  • Elastic: 1 yard

 

Baby/Toddler Sizes

  • Fabric: 1/2 yard

  • Elastic: 5/8 yard

 

Remember to pre-wash and dry your fabric before class.
