Program Details

What Is A Pre-Apprenticeship Program?

There are few means of gaining experience in the Electrical Trade due to the Provincial Regulations of the Compulsory Trades. Consequently, Contractors have limited opportunities to determine a candidate’s aptitude and abilities.

However, Contractors recognize the economic benefit of our program as traditional apprenticeships require that you have a Journeyperson overseeing you while you learn the basics of the trade; this along with cost and safety concerns are the primary reasons for their reluctance to take on new Apprentices and the purpose of a pre-apprenticeship.

In addition, by working with basic skills and safety certifications from day 1, you minimize the economic penalty and concerns that most Apprentice applicants bring to their door.

Procedures On Becoming An Apprentice

This program is pre-Apprenticeship which will provide the equivalent to Level 1 training at Interprovincial Standards (Red Seal).  This will make you not only readied for the Electrical Trade but also highly marketable and in demand.

Apprenticeship is a process where you earn as you learn.  Once reaching the total required 9,000 hours and successfully challenging the exam to become a licensed Electrician, and reach the Journeyperson level.

Once you complete the Trillium College Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship program those 578 hours can be credited towards the 9,000 hours on a discretionary basis.Next, you will need to find a job full-time or part-time with pay to finish the remaining hours.

To advance in Levels of Apprenticeship a Trade Delivery Agent (TDA) will need to be attended.

Within the 90-day probation, employers must decide and agree to register you as an Apprentice and you will need to contact the Ministry of Labour Training & Skill Development local office to register online as an Apprentice (no fees).
