An elevated work platform (EWP) can be a telescopic, hinged or an articulated mechanical device used to support a platform where workers, materials, and equipment may be raised.
Elevated work platforms are mainly used on construction sites for temporary access to areas that are generally at height.
This course will show you how to safely operate a boom-type elevated work platform where you will be required to plan a job, carry out routine operational checks, set up and operate an elevated work platform according to site procedures and finally shut down and secure the equipment in a safe and compliant manner.
All components of this course will be taught by our highly skilled and flexible trainers through written and practical teachings at our on-site training facility in Brisbane. The course content will include the following;
WHS/OHS legislation, Australian standards, and site policies and procedures
Hazards related to personnel and equipment and measures used to control them
Routine operational checks of the elevated work platform
Maintenance, shutdown and isolation procedures
How to safely operate an elevated work platform
Load estimation to prevent overloading of equipment
Effective communication in the workplace
Ground conditions and soil types relevant to setting up an elevated work platform
Emergency procedures and necessary safety equipment such as harnesses and anchor points
On successful completion of this course, applicants will have the ability to demonstrate the following;
Identify hazards in the workplace and apply the necessary control measures using the hierarchy of controls to ensure the safety of all workers and equipment.
Conduct before and after operational checks of the elevated work platform
Assess ground conditions for safe stability of equipment such as backfilled ground, uneven ground, and concrete
Operate equipment safely and apply movements such as articulating, lowering and raising the boom, and slewing.
Choose appropriate safety equipment for the specific job being carried out
Maintain all equipment and isolate if faulty according to site procedures
Understand the capabilities, limitations, and functions of an elevated work platform
Communicate effectively with personnel in the workplace and ensure appropriate methods of communication such as hand signals, signage, and two-way radios are adhered to
Comply with relevant legislation and site-specific documentation relevant to elevated work platforms
Document all relevant information regarding the operations of an elevated work platform.

Steel cap boots, high visibility shirt, hard hat, safety glasses.
We recommend long sleeve shirts and long trousers and UV sunscreen. Steel cap runners are not acceptable. Safety sunglasses may be acceptable.
