They provide a wide range of embroidery techniques to explore. Some students have formed a group and have worked through their modules together and if you wish, a mentor can be appointed to help guide you.
Through the ANZEG Education programme, anyone can enroll in our Embroidery Modules and Diploma programme.
ANZEG Modules Courses are designed to encourage the self-development of any stitcher. They provide a wide range of embroidery techniques to explore.
Some students have formed a group and have worked through their modules together and if you wish, a mentor can be appointed to help guide you – but however you choose to do it, this can be an exciting voyage of discovery.
Students are encouraged to research their chosen topic through books and the internet, observation, classes, etc and at the end present their work in a folio of worksheets complete with design inspiration and embroidery samples.
A series of exercises are presented for each topic and the student must work through these (there are lots of choices) to demonstrate their understanding of the topic and its history.
Experimental work is encouraged and the completed folio of work must be accompanied by two completed articles.
To achieve the Diploma of Embroidery, students must complete five modules:
(Design, Colour and History of Embroidery are compulsory)
plus two other modules of the student’s choice. Topics include:
ANZEG is the parent organisation for 56 embroiderers’ guilds around New Zealand. We are proud to be recognised as a voice for raising the profile of textile and stitched art.
Our guilds are a great place to learn about and share embroidery – everything from cross stitch to mixed media, gold work to whitework, canvaswork to beadwork to just about any embroidery you care to name – someone, somewhere will be creating and sharing in our guilds and at events, exhibitions and workshops around New Zealand.
Members are encouraged to participate in any area of stitch they're interested in, at any level, whether its young people just learning their first stitches to professional artists extending the boundaries of textile art, or someone who simply appreciates fabric and thread.
We firmly believe that textiles are as relevant today as they have ever been, and there is a place for both the traditional, fine hand stitching alongside the bold and contemporary machine work. There are many benefits in belonging to a guild, not least being the friendship and inspiration of your fellow stitchers.
Even though we are called a 'Guild', there is nothing stuffy or exclusive about us so whether you're a child/parent/grandparent; woman/man; beginner or experienced stitcher; if you love textiles and have an interest in creating art with thread, we'd love you to join us.
This class is for experienced stitches working on their own projects using mainly crewel techniques.
This is an introductory course suitable for all students wanting to investigate screen printing, stenciling, block printing, free hand machine embroidery and appliqué. No previous experience or ability to draw is required. Places are limited.
Students will explore embroidery and advanced technologies for the production of innovative fashion textiles.
If you know someone who wants to learn how to make quilts then I would appreciate their introduction. I take beginners on a one to one basis and coach them through the process from choosing their project to binding and labelling their quilt.
You will be making lots of different 2 inch and 3 inch blocks. We'll have a kit for you and it will be either a warm palette (red, gold, cream, browns) or a cool palette (greens, blues, creams, mauves etc).
