Aim(s): To provide learners with the basic skills in order to offer emergency assistance for those identified as requiring it.
Objec tives: Learners will be able to:
Identify the roles and responsibilities of a first aider and appointed person, how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others and the need for consent to provide first aid
To discuss and demonstrate the DRABCD approach to managing first aid
Demonstrate the following:
adult CPR using a manikin
placing a casualty into the recovery position
monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position
Identify and demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is:
Choking
Displaying signs of a seizure
Presenting with an external bleed
suffering from shock
Presenting with different types of wounds, minor burns and scolds

The First Aid at Work 3 day course equips the candidate with the skills, knowledge and positive attitude to manage an emergency situation. It is approved by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to their high standards.
Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a First Aid certificate which is an accredited qualification and valid for three years.
This EMAS approved course will equip those who wish to become First Aiders, or lapsed First Aiders, in all the essential aspects of occupational First Aid.
Delegates must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.
