Overview.
This one day course will give you the confidence, knowledge and skills to undertake the duties of an Emergency First Aider (EFAW) outlined in the current Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 as required/identified by the establishments’ First Aid Risk Assessment. This course of training is more often suited to lower risk environments with fewer staff.

Who should attend?
Anyone wishing to become the Workplace First Aider to “EFAW” level as identified/required by the establishments’ risk assessment.

Emergency First Aid at Work

This course meets Health & Safety requirements for the purposes of the First Aid at Work Regulations 1981. It is the minimum recognised qualification for Basic First Aiders in the workplace.

Emergency First Aid is the minimum recognised qualification and is also accepted and required by insurance companies in order for those concerned to act as a qualified first aider both in the workplace and on a self employed basis. This course can also be delivered alongside our Emergency First Aid for Schools course (Please discuss this with us so we can allow additional time where needed).

Who should attend?
Anyone wishing to become the Workplace First Aider to “EFAW” level as identified/required by the establishments’ risk assessment. Typical persons attending would include those working in low risk environments such as teachers, sports coaches, self employed persons and those working in small and medium size businesses.

Also Useful for anyone wishing to learn Adult & Child CPR. Infant/Baby (under 1’s) CPR can be accommodated with additional time on conclusion of the course if needed (no additional fee).

What you will learn?
How to effectively treat anyone who has been injured or who has suffered a medical emergency in the workplace within the duties of their role as required by law.

Topics covered:

  • The aims and responsibilities of the First Aider & dealing with an emergency.

  • First at the scene of an accident and the priorities of treatment.

  • Causes, recognition and treatment of the unconscious casualty and use of the Recovery Position.

  • The treatment of an Adult (18+) and Child (1-17) casualty who is not breathing normally which will include how to carry out Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) including the use of a Defibrillator/AED.

  • Signs, symptoms and treatment for a casualty that is choking. (Adult, Child & Baby).

  • Treatment of a casualty who is wounded and bleeding to include the treatment for Shock.

  • Understand and demonstrate the treatment of someone who suffers a burn, scald or minor injury.

  • Management of Epilepsy and seizure.

  • Recording incidents & first aid actions.

Objectives

  • To enable the delegate to carry out the basic duties of the Emergency First Aider as specified in the First Aid at Work Regulations 1981.

  • To act safe, prompt and effectively in the workplace environment.

  • Understand the current First Aid Regulations and comply with workplace law.

Assessment
Ongoing assessment will take place throughout the course which may include a final multiple choice question paper. On successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded a recognised certificate in workplace “Emergency First Aid at Work” (EFAW) which is valid for three years from the date of issue.
