This Emergency First Aid at Work course is aimed at those who are working outside and over 16 years of age, it is adapted to be very practical with the use of scenarios to reinforce learning and is in line with the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981.
On completion of training a successful candidate should be able to:
Understand the role of the first-aider including reference to:
The importance of preventing cross-infection;
The need for recording incidents and actions;
Use of available equipment;
Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizures);
Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, (including use of Automated External Defibrillator AED)) ;
Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
Assessment and certification
This course has a maximum of 12 candidates who are continuously assessed, with no final exam. Those that are deemed to have reached the required standard are issued with a certificate that is valid for 3 years. Under current guidelines it is strongly recommended to attend a half-day refresher course every 12 months.
