The Emergency Paediatric First Aid training course is designed those with a responsibility for the care of children and babies. In line with Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements, at least one person with a current full Paediatric First Aid Certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children and present and must accompany children on outings.
Qualification
First Aid Award (FAA) Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid
The FAA Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification is unit 1 of the two-day FAA Paediatric First Aid qualification. This qualification lasts for 3 years, after which time delegates must retake the whole course. It is recommended that, during the 3 year period, delegates attend an annual refresher course.
From gaining this Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification students can progress to completing unit 2 and being awarded the 2-day FAA Award in Paediatric First Aid.

The Emergency Paediatric First Aid training course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with a range of paediatric emergency first aid situations.

Role of the Paediatric First Aider
Primary Survey
Seizures
Choking
Wounds, bleeding and shock
Minor Injuries
Resusciation (CPR including safe use of an AED)
Recovery position
Course Duration
The course is a minimum of 8 hours in the classroom consisting of consisting of at least 6 hours of classroom contact plus some pre-course study. The course can be delivered over a maximum of a 4-week period, with each training session being a minimum of 2 hours.
Participant Restrictions
Students for the Emergency Paediatric First Aid training course must be a minimum of 16 years to qualify. A maximum of 12 students can attend each course.
Assessment and Marking
The qualification is assessed both through practical demonstration and written assessment. Students must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment; students pass or are referred.
