The course covers the skills and techniques that are required to be successful in the role as an emergency response team member.

The active course has theoretical and practical input which will provide delegates with a greater awareness of fire and its associated dangers, to ensure sufficient knowledge to enable them to act confidently and effectively in an emergency situation.

The duration of the course can be tailored from one to five days depending on the level and content to be delivered.

 

The industrial training is tailored to the individual business needs and operation and can include the following:

  • BA set familiarisation and assembly of equipment
  • Mandatory equipment checks (including daily, pre-use checks, log books)
  • Entry control procedures
  • Air management (Dynamic air management, turnaround times)
  • Safe movement in BA
  • Search techniques
  • Firefighting tactics
  • Fire extinguishers (theory and practical training
  • Hose lines and branch management
  • Pump Operation
  • Foam and foam making theory, practical exercises, running fuel fires
  • Hazardous materials practical exercises
  • Hot Wear – Live Fires (practical exercises)
  • Fire Behaviour (Flashover/Backdraft)
  • Doors / stairs procedure
  • Emergency procedures (man down/loss of communication)
  • Gas Tight Suit training (theory and practical)
  • Hazardous chemical data: Emergency action code
  • Decontamination procedures (theory & practical)
  • Basic Firefighting with Breathing Apparatus
  • Hazardous Materials Emergency Response
  • Duties of the BA Team Leader
  • Operating principles of Breathing Apparatus
  • Correct maintenance of breathing apparatus and firefighting equipment
  • Incident assessment
  • Effective communication
  • Effective briefing and debriefing
  • Planning and organising
  • Casualty search and rescue
  • The theory of combustion and the causes of fire
  • On site risks
