Course Overview

To equip participants to make an analysis of their key motivators, interests, skills & achievements in preparation for making Career Management decisions.

Course Objectives

During the session, you will

  • Review the pre-course initial assessment and VAKS document making an assessment of your learning styles.

  • Build up your self-confidence in relation to yourself, your career-management and job preparation.

  • Begin drafting a number of key transferable skills and achievements in order to write/update a CV and for drafting Application Forms.

  • Begin to think and express positively your skills and achievements

Session Two - Self-presentation: CVs & Application Forms

To equip participants with the essential elements for drafting CVs and application forms when responding to job application forms or job opportunities.

CVs

  • Discuss the essential elements and main components necessary for compiling a good CV.

  • Identify the pro’s and con’s for the different types of CV: Chronological, Functional & Marketing CVs.

  • Examine participants’ CVs, and consider how to improve existing CVs and agree on a good CV template to follow for the future.

Application Forms

  • Discuss the most effective ways of completing application forms and responding to the Job Description and Person Specification/Criteria by providing examples of skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Discuss the importance of creating an impact with the application through presentation, layout and style.
