This course will give you an understanding of how words work and the power to use them effectively. You will explore the importance of language in society.
You will study:
How language is to do with identity and who we are
How and why language varies across society and is connected to power
How texts create representations that try to shape our views of the world
How children learn to talk, read and write
The ways English language has changed and how it is developing in a digital and global age
By the end of this course you will have produced a portfolio of original writing and undertaken a research project.
What can I do after this course?
By choosing an English A Level you will develop easily transferable communication skills that are desirable for most careers and higher education courses.
English graduates enter a very wide range of careers in the media, public relations, advertising, marketing, publishing, library and information services and teaching.
