Description
GCSE English Language is a nationally recognised qualification. For many learners achieving a grade 4 or higher builds confidence in English skills as well as opening doors to greater work opportunities and higher education.
This course is assessed through the completion of two exam papers which will be sat on fixed dates usually in June and will be published at the beginning of the course.

Entry requirements
Previous achievement of a grade 3 ( or D) in GCSE English Language or a level 2 Functional Skill in English or demonstrating, by initial assessment, that English skills are at level 2 will guarantee entry onto this course.
Course aims
By the end of the course learners will be able to demonstrate that they can:
read fluently and understand, a wide range of texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
read and evaluate texts critically and make comparisons between texts
summarise and synthesise information or ideas from texts
use knowledge gained from wide reading to inform and improve their own writing
write effectively and coherently using Standard English appropriately 5. use grammar correctly and punctuate and spell accurately
acquire and apply a wide vocabulary, alongside a knowledge and understanding of grammatical terminology, and linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language
